SGO Designer Glass Surprises National Demonstration Home Team

The Universal Design Living Laboratory Team is Thrilled with Artwork Gift

COLUMBUS, OH – March 14, 2010 – The Universal Design Living Laboratory (UDLL), a national demonstration home of the future, recently received a surprise gift of five decorative glass art panels from SGO Designer Glass. The panels were a secret project completed by Patrick Manley, UDLL architect, and artist Cathy Van Volkenburg in conjunction with Charlie Groezinger of SGO Designer Glass.

“The Universal Design Living Laboratory project was certainly worthwhile,” states Groezinger. “The aim of our glass panel art was to combine the home’s utility with a sense of beauty and art, and we are confident to say that it will serve its purpose.”

The artwork was designed not only to give the home another unique feature, but to give the home a sense of Feng Shui as well, asserting its five elements of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. The most predominant color within the design is blue and its varying shades, which creates the presence of nature inside the home. The panels lack straight lines to incorporate a sense of fluidity and acts as a contrast to the vertical and horizontal lines found within the home. Four glass art panels will be suspended horizontally nine feet above the library hallway. The last panel will be used as an interior garage entry door at the end of the hallway.

“People need to be educated on creative and unique ways that glass art can be used in the home,” says Anna L. Lyon, Allied ASID, UDLL interior designer. “These panels extend a sense of rhythm, balance and color throughout the home.”
